Weather systems bring heavy showers, flooding risks to multiple regions
Manila, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) combined with the southwest monsoon (habagat) is bringing moderate to heavy rain across large parts of the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Thursday.
According to PAGASA, the LPA was last spotted inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is enhancing the effects of the habagat, resulting in increased rainfall over Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao.

Areas Affected
The regions currently experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms include:
- Metro Manila
- Western Visayas
- MIMAROPA
- Zambales, Bataan, and Palawan
Localized flash floods and landslides are possible, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas, PAGASA warned.
No Tropical Cyclone—Yet
As of 11:00 a.m., the LPA has not developed into a tropical depression, but meteorologists are closely monitoring it for potential intensification.
“There is still a chance the LPA could strengthen,” said PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas. “Regardless of development, the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rain.”
Precautionary Measures Urged
Disaster response agencies have advised local governments to remain alert and activate precautionary protocols. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) urged residents in flood-prone communities to prepare for possible evacuations.
“We remind the public to monitor updates and follow local advisories,” said NDRRMC spokesperson Raffy Alejandro.
Sea Travel Disruptions
Due to strong winds and rough coastal waters, small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the western seaboard of Luzon and Visayas. Fisherfolk are urged to take extra precautions.
When Will The Weather Improve?
Weather conditions are expected to gradually improve over the weekend, but intermittent rain may persist in western sections of the country.
