Ozamiz City, Philippines—A Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight encountered a wheel steering issue on Friday, June 13, preventing the aircraft from taxiing after landing at Labo Airport in Ozamiz.

The issue occurred shortly after touchdown, prompting the flight crew to halt the aircraft safely on the runway as a precautionary measure. All passengers and crew were reported safe, and no injuries were recorded.

“The aircraft landed normally, but the flight crew experienced difficulty steering the aircraft during taxi,” PAL said in an official statement.

Airport Operations Briefly Affected

The aircraft remained on the runway for a short period while ground personnel assessed the situation and initiated towing procedures. As a result, airport operations were temporarily affected, with minor delays reported in subsequent flights.

Emergency teams were on standby but were not required to intervene, as the situation was deemed non-critical.

Technical Review Underway

Philippine Airlines confirmed that the affected aircraft has been removed from service and is undergoing a full technical inspection to determine the cause of the steering malfunction.

“Safety remains our top priority. We are cooperating fully with airport authorities to ensure all operational and maintenance protocols are observed,” PAL added.

Passengers Deplaned Safely

All passengers were assisted in deplaning and were able to exit the aircraft using standard procedures. PAL arranged necessary ground transportation and support services.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is also conducting a standard review of the incident.
