Pagasa Closely Monitors System As It May Bring Rain Over The Eastern Philippines

Manila, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) tracked by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has officially developed into Tropical Depression Auring 2025, becoming the first named storm to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this year.

Tropical Depression Auring

In its 11:00 a.m. bulletin on Wednesday, PAGASA said Auring was located east of Mindanao, moving northwestward at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

“Tropical Depression Auring 2025 may bring moderate to heavy rain over parts of Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao starting Thursday,” PAGASA said.

Signal No. 1 May Be Raised

The state weather bureau said it is not ruling out the possibility of raising Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over areas in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and nearby provinces should the system maintain its current strength or intensify.

Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas are advised to prepare for possible flash floods and landslides.

Rain Expected In Parts Of Luzon And Visayas

Even without landfall, Auring is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) and bring scattered rain showers over parts of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Western Visayas over the weekend.

The Philippine Coast Guard has also advised fisherfolk and small sea vessels to avoid sailing in areas with rough seas caused by the depression.

No Immediate Threat Of Intensification

As of this update, PAGASA does not expect Tropical Depression Auring 2025 to intensify into a tropical storm over the next 24 hours, but monitoring will continue.

“We will issue updates every six hours as Auring moves closer to the country’s eastern seaboard,” PAGASA added.

Public Urged To Stay Informed

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is coordinating with local government units in preparation for possible preemptive evacuations, particularly in flood-prone communities.

Authorities are reminding the public to regularly check official PAGASA bulletins and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
