Plai Biang Lek, the snack-loving elephant, strikes again

Thailand — Customers at a small store near Khao Yai National Park had an unforgettable surprise this week when an unexpected visitor casually strolled in — not a tourist, but a 30-year-old wild elephant named Plai Biang Lek.

The elephant didn’t cause panic. Instead, it calmly helped itself to crackers, a sandwich, and bananas and walked out holding a bag of snacks with its trunk, like a pro grocery shopper on a mission.

Locals: “First time sa store, pero hindi first time mag-snack”

According to residents, this was Plai Biang Lek’s first time inside a store, but definitely not his first time hunting for snacks. The elephant has a bit of a reputation around the area for roaming nearby villages in search of tasty treats.

“Sanay na kami sa kanya,” said one local. “Pero ‘yung pumasok talaga sa tindahan, ngayon lang ‘yan!”

No harm, Just Hungry

Fortunately, no one was hurt and the shop didn’t suffer major damage. Shopkeepers and park rangers have urged people to stay calm and avoid feeding wild elephants, no matter how friendly or funny their visits may seem.

Officials from Khao Yai National Park are monitoring the situation and reminding residents to secure their food waste to avoid attracting more wild animals into populated areas.

Internet Reacts: “Certified soft boy si Plai Biang Lek!”

Photos and videos of the gentle elephant’s snack run have gone viral, with netizens calling him a “certified soft boy” and joking that he’s just like them when craving midnight snacks.
